MICROCHIP CLINIC
Don't let your pet become an unidentified shelter statistic - have your pet microchipped by a licensed veterinarian. Our experience is that pets brought to the shelter with a microchip go home immediately. Those without microchps are most often never claimed. Pets can easily wandered out of their home town or be transported elsewhere by humans. We have reunited pets with their owners that ended up 30 miles away from home - only possible because that pet had a microchip! Would you think to look 30 miles away if your pet went missing? Click here for more information about our next microchip clinic being held on August 16, 2008!

Who We Are
Companion Critters, Inc., a 501(c)(3), non-profit New Jersey corporation, was founded on September 17, 2000 to help the animals on death row in shelters and pounds. To date, 503 homeless pets have been saved. All animals are put into foster homes where their behavior, likes and dislikes are evaluated. This provides you with important information which will better help match a pet to your lifestyle.
All pets adopted from Companion Critters will be spayed or neutered before they are released to new homes. In addition to our rescue efforts, we actively promote and provide low cost spaying and neutering services for both owned and feral animals. Our goal is to be part of the solution of pet overpopulation.
Companion Critters, Inc. also works closely with the Union Township Animal Shelter to maintain their Petfinder site and ensure all shelter animals are spayed/neutered, vaccinated and microchipped prior to adoption.
What We Do
As an animal is adopted and a foster space opens up, we visit shelters to fill the spot. (Sorry, we do not take in strays directly nor do we accept owner released animals - our sole purpose is to rescue animals from euthanasia in shelters.) In many cases, we are scrambling to choose from those that have been marked for euthanasia for the day. We look for friendly and personable animals that show no signs of aggression. We also have a soft spot for the frightened ones that are traumatized by the shelter experience and just need some TLC to come out of their shells and show their wonderful personalities. Once the selection is made, they are taken to our homes where they are bathed. Each dog is fitted with a new collar and ID tag. Then we are off to the veterinarian for shots, physicals and blood work. All animals are photographed. After a very busy and harrowing day, they are taken to their foster home where they are given a nice dinner and are placed in crates with clean, soft bedding and a new toy (courtesy of our wonderful toy, blanket and comforter donors!) for what is probably the best night of sleep they have had in a very long time.
By ordering these products and services through the links provided, you not only benefit from great prices, the homeless animals also benefit from a portion of the proceeds which are donated to Companion Critters, Inc.

DOG AND CAT GROOMING:
We highly recommend
Reigning Cats and Dogs Salon in Westfield, NJ. Reigning Cats and Dogs does an excellent job and they graciously provide professional grooming for all of our rescues who need it.
MICROCHIP CLINICS:
We periodically hold microchip clinics where a licenced veterinarian implants microchips to help keep owned pets home and out of shelters! It's as simple as getting vaccinated and offers lifelong identification. Unexpected things happen in life and pets inadvertantly become separated from their families - be prepared by having your pet microchipped. Just think of how many Hurricane Katrina pets could have been reuinited with their families had they been microchipped. The cost is only $25 and includes free microchip registration. If you would like to be notified when the next clinic is scheduled, send us an
email and we will keep you informed of future clinics.
